Recessipedia:About
From Recessipedia
The Recessipedia is a wiki-based platform for the public to collaboratively document, edit and share information on what caused the recession of 2008-2009 and how it impacted the lives of those on Wall Street and Main Street. For those not familiar with wikis, a wiki is a collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone with access to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language.
Anyone with an informed opinion on the root causes of the recession or a first hand story they want to tell are encouraged to submit and edit articles. The Museum of American Finance owns and operates Recessipedia, but is largely uninvolved in contributing content and in the daily operations of the wiki. The primary role of the Museum of American Finance is to facilitate a collaborative investigation into the causes and effects of the recession and preserve the research for the public, historians and future generations.
While Recessipedia has a similar look and feel to Wikipedia, there are two notable differences. First, personal stories are accepted and, in fact, encouraged. In aggregate, these stories should help us understand the role people played in dealing with the economic crisis and how it impacted their lives. With this in mind, not all information on the Recessipedia is verifiable. Personal stories will be categorized separately from articles on issues, institutions, events (verifiable topics). Second, Recessipedia is dedicated to understanding causes and effects directly related to the recession, not defining terms.
Articles are organized along two different dimensions. First, they are categorized according to their focus on one of the following: key players (third person), key moments, causes, industries, government interventions, companies, countries or personal stories. Second, users can tag articles with any number of keywords.
Welcome to Recessipedia. And thank you for helping to document the history of one of the defining moments in economic history. The rest of this guide outlines the process for submitting an article, editing an article, resolving a dispute and staying involved with the community.
